i noticed a nice improvement putting cats on my llongtubes, and it helps with back pressure and would help to stop the popping
I was trying to free up the exhaust with the longtubes . I plan on doing some head work in the near future ...I don't want to put a cat on it...they are expensive and restrictive, are they not?

^CATS can be expensive, yes. Restrictive? More so than a straight-pipe. But it would solve your machine gun sound effects. Or at least reduce them a little bit.

The other set of wires did not cure it. I'm not going to try and hide it with cats....I want it to stop .
Just a thought ....if the trans shop hit the crank sensor while pulling and reinstalling the transmission , could this cause my exploding exhaust ?

First off, Cats do not help with backpressure... they help with exhaust velocity. If your exhaust is too free flowing for the engine output, then velocity is lost and the engine has to work harder to push the gases out of the pipes. Causing a loss of low end torque.
Second, a high flow cat is not that restrictive and isnt all that expensive (100). That will help your popping sound also...
Why would a crank sensor effect exploding exhaust....you shouldnt have any fuel in your exhaust that would "explode", unless your running really rich from a bad tune, or a crapped injector..etc.
Wires? if your talking about spark plug wires changing them wont make a difference on how your exhaust sounds. Fixing cross talk between the wires causing a miss fire or hesitation? Sure.

It never did it before and I had 2 1/2" true dials with no cat . Now I have longtubes 3" collectors immediately down to 2 1/2" and into 2 magnaflows with no tailpipes . The backfiring started immediately after installing the longtubes and did it with open headers too. I'm trying to figure out why there is unburnt fuel in my exhaust all of a sudden.
There shouldn't be a problem pushing the exhaust out as it is only a couple feet long . Besides the backfiring and the end of 2nd gear it sounds perfect . It is also working amazing! I was thinking wires because of unburnt fuel.
