What is the average cost to rebuild the front end? (u-joints,ball joints, sway bar, track bar, end links, wheel bearings...etc?)

Yeah I am currently doing my front end as well.Of course mine isnt a 4x4.Anyone have a 98' 2wd 318 with some tips?

 

Prices can vary DRAMATICALLY. There have been hub/bearing assemblies for as little as 60 bucks for a PAIR..... to as much as 300 bucks each. Outer axle U-joints can run from 10, to 30 bucks. A lot depends on just what parts you want to put in there. Same goes for the steering parts........

Best bet is to decide what you want to replace, and then check various sources for the quality of parts you want. Pick the best deal that you can live with.

 

When i replace everything its going to splicer(dana)...

If you use all moog parts (without the track bar) I think Rockauto came in around 710 bucks.
Spicer U-joints about 30.00.
And wheel bearings...like stated big margin. I bought a set off ebay for about 185 bucks. Chinese...yes...still working fine...yes. Money saved off of buying chinese stuff from parts store...about 100 bucks. Good as Timken...well I'll let you know when these finally die. I do NOT expect them to last as long.

 

if you shop around for your parts, ordering from rockauto, or at least getting close to their pricing, you can save a TON of money as opposed to paying full price at your local napa.

the parts are only moderately expensive. maybe 800-1000 for trackbar, bearings, brakes, u-joints, ball joints, tie rod ends, brakes, seals, cad bushings, sway bar ends and bushings, etc. more if you add steering box or column and/or idler arm.

you want to plan this so that - if possible, you only have to take the stupid thing apart one time. at the minimum - do all the core at once including axles, seals, cad stuff, ball joints, u-joints, bearings. the outer stuff - track bar, tie rod, sway bar stuff, steering box can be piecemealed without a lot of teardown.

the labor on this will be huge, so if you can do it yourself, you'll probably save $1000 or more on labor, plus another ton on parts markup.

 

I just wanna replce parts than are normally needed at 130k (ball joints and sway/track bars and so on..) i will be doing it all myself(never would let someone touch my truck)

 

I just bought front end parts for my truck, everything except for shocks, bearings and joints. But, I'm also doing the brakes as well.

The price came out to just under $1000, with all moog steering parts, raybestos and wagner brake parts. There's a couple parts that I haven't bought yet, but I think I got some pretty good deals. Also check out Amazon for some of the main parts. Many were actually cheaper through them, more so if you factor in shipping, which you can get free(you can also try out their prime membership and get free 2 day shipping on most stuff for 30 days). The main problem I had was finding some of the lesser bought parts.

I also wanted to add that the best way to find parts through Amazon is to take the part number from rock auto or whichever place you found the part at, and search for the part that way. Much quicker. Finding auto parts on Amazon is kind of long and drawn out for some reason, unless you search for it like I did.
