500 mile break in minimum. Most recommend 1000. Multiple heat cycles "cure" the facings of the gears and allow contaminates like phosphorus to burn off and go into the oil.
Pull cover and dump the oil out at 1000 to get rid of the break in contaminates.
Wipe the magnet inside the pumpkin to remove the metallic flakes.
Spray the gears and pumpkin out with a generous amount of brake parts cleaner to remove residuals.
Scrape the RTV off the pumpkin face and the cover.
Reapply new RTV (be generous and do complete circles around the bolt holes,) let it set for 5-10 minutes.
Reinstall cover.
Let the cover sit for about 2-3 hours with the plug out to allow the RTV a good cure. Fill with gear oil until it drips out of the fill hole. Usually a bit over 2 quarts. use a friction modifier is you have an LSD rearend. it won't hurt to add friction modifier to a non LSD rear so use it if you are unsure. Royal Purple and some other oils come with a friction modifier already mixed in, so read label carefully.
Shove plug back in.
Drive it like you stole it!

281-318magnum - I just worked on a Dodge Ram rear not long ago, i found out they use a special tool to remove/install the carrier it doesn't just fall out after removing the main carrier bolts.
If you already know disregard this.
dodgeramit_10 - No you dont get posi just cause you swap gear, posi is whats inside the carrier.

The Detroits were 450-500 each so you're looking at about $600 if you just get the gears/install kits.
If you're two wheel drive then you're looking at half that to just get the rear end fixed up.
Then there is the install, the dealership wants $900 for front and rear if you supply the gears. A lot of small shops will charge around 600 for front and rear if you supply the gears.
