Default oil pressure gauge-drops-wheres op sensor?

My oil pressure just drops to the bottom of the gauge and red light comes.
I can turn trk off and it will wrk again and then while again driving she just drops again.
Where is the oil pressure sensor located on a 99 5.9 360?

Any other ideas on the gauge dropping to the bottom?

you might be sucking up a blockage onto the pickup screen that's dropping off when you shut off the truck.

you need to determine, without damaging the motor, whether the oil pressure drop is real, or just a false reading on the gauge. the safest way to do this is to screw in a manual gauge in place of the sending unit.

if the pressure drop is real, you could try changing the oil and filter. it might fix it. if not you'll need to drop the pan and check the screen. since you'll be looking at the oil pump, you might as well replace it.

remove the air filter box so you can see.
look on the passenger side of the distributor, on the top of the block, the oil sending unit is a black vertical cylinder about 1 in ch diameter and 2-3 inches tall. the wire plugs into the top of it.

The socket size is 1 1/16

They make a special OP socket that has a rubber boot in it and is deep enough to pull it out. Cost about $10. Some 1 1/16 deep sockets are not deep enough to fit. So I went ahead and got the special socket. No problems..
