In that case, with the correct tools, adjusting the bands is very simple. Download this https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-gen-rams.html the only difference in the procedure will be the tool used for the adjuster screw , maybe.

So i drove the truck around, motor wise seems ok, if i do get it ill make a new exhaust system and do a big tune up. BUT seems like if you drive in D it starts in 3rd and if you start in 1st or 2nd it starts in 2nd.....And at 50ish mph i pressed the od on n off and didnt seem like it was lockin and unlocking.....needs adjusting or trans toast?

With 230K miles, I would suspect the trans is on its way out. Rebuilds run anywhere from 1500, to over 3000 bucks....... (parts and labor) You can spend even more if you want to......

With that many miles on it....... that is only going to be the start of the major repairs. I would pass on that one.

Im kind of suspecting the same, im going to hopfully have time to play with it this weekend mybe the gear selector is out wack not in place properly. Then if all fails i can order one form a junk yard for 700bucks 103k or just go to the pick and pull spend 45min pull one out for 65-100bucks n hope for the best

That shifting problem might be the Gov Pressure Solenoid.

Unless you're looking for a beater truck or a farm truck, that $400 will turn into big bucks quick. I wouldn't trust it to tow much of anything. If you have any slight doubts about the tranny at all, pass on it. Be patient and find a decent truck for a decent price. That's my $.02.
