Default 99 1500 with 230k worth the money?

So i have a chance of getting a 99 1500 5.2 V8 4x4 with 230k for 400bucks Im a tech but specialized on honda's and toyota's so dont kno much about the 5.2L v8 It runs good, i just need a truck for once and awhile house things and to tow my car to the track and back. I kno this truck is nothing compared to my old 8.3L v8 that hauled stuff with no problem, but im sure has the same or more *** then my shop 4.7 V8 5spd.

Bascily any bads about this truck? worth the change and do the 5.2 have power to haul things?

Thanks in advance for the help everyone and yes i am still goin threw all the pages on the forum

Welcome. If it is a running truck for 400, go for it. Even if the transmission goes you can easily part it out and make your money back. If you get tired of parting, most junkyards will buy the truck off of ya.

What do you plan on towing? A 1/2 ton with 230,000 is NOT an ideal tow rig.

it is drivable - if so test drive it and check out the transmission. if it has ANY shifting or slipping problems then think twice - it might be a parts truck only.

assuming trans is ok, and you have the means to fix it up just a little, by all means buy it for $400 bucks. its a 4wd, so get it running and you can sell it for 1000-1500+

towing power with 3.55 gears will be sucky.

Have the filter and fluid changed(with ATF+4) and get the bands adjusted. Turn OD off when towing. And just change the fluid,do NOT have it flushed.

Yea ill add a trans cooler inline, i dunno about adjusting the bands , i dont want to have to pull the trans. I just kno the older dodges or even any other trucks in the 90s doesnt have good power, but i dont need to race to the track just get it there and not brake down.

I said "Have the fluid and filter changed" . I did not suggest you do it yourself. Both bands can be easily adjusted during the fluid change process(by a qualified tech), and does not require removal of the tranny.
