no, i looked at it today, the tag said "231" i guess he got the truck from a friend, and he put his old t-case from his old 1500 into it, and then his friend sold the truck to him....kind of confusing, but all in all its the same T-Case.

Well im going to start a new thread for my transfer case change when i get ready.....probably start ripping it out monday.

 

Start? it takes less than 1 hour if you're taking your time. Don't forget to drain the fluid first, unless you want an ATF shower.

If you want to rebuild your old one, the 2001 service manual has a good tear down of it.

 

i want to pull mine now so i can gut it out.....and what is the f'n size of the check/fill hole on the transfer case? my 1 1/8 is to small, and thats the biggest wrench i have.

 

That's not the drain plug.

 

Yeah, don't take that off. The drain/fill plugs are 10mm allen.
Unless you have the hex head plugs, I think I've seen that before.

Are you talking about the bolt/plug thingy on the bottom right side of this picture? That's the one I say to leave alone.

 

Yea, that's the one I'm assuming he's talking about. However, it appears we are both too late and he's out side taking it off right now! LOL

 

Doh! At least it's getting replaced anyway.

 

I looked in the Haynes, it appears the older ones do have a large nut size style plug, but also a provision to use a torx or allen. The pic isn't that good, so I can't tell which.

Of course an adjustable wrench would work also.

 

no my check/drain plugs are big styles with no hex or allen plugs.....its right below the tag (the plugs) i have nothing else that looks like a plug/.

 

You got the right ones, just use an adjustable.
