There is no gasket between TC and Tranny, but there is 2 seals. And like you've been told twice now, The TC saver is a must, the way you wheel that poor thing.

Dude! If the OEM snap ring is broke in the TC, that could be the cause of the grinding. And that's why somebody came up with the idea of the TC Saver. Pull the tail shaft and look.

lol i still dont have the truck....i dropped it off wednesday, and he needed another day...yesterday i had to work 11-10, so i couldn check up on it, but i did call him to see whats up

he put it in 4x4 and cant make the grind happen (on lift) and in 2wd is still grinds (on lift)

hes trying a few more things to it, to see if we can't figure this....and i have no doubt in my mind that it could be the snap ring, but i need to know if my transfer case is to far gone, and if i need a new one....

but i was thinking, my buddy saw the front shaft starting to spin when the grind occured...couldn i just take off the front driveshaft to make it not grind for now to save me time and money just for right now?

i need the truck in 2 weeks for deer hunting....i wont have my dads truck with me obviously, and i dont feel like strapping a deer to the top of the maxima lol.

getting anxious...he called and said come by around 2 and it should be done....i didnt ask any questions, but he said "done" that could mean he fixed it, or he will have it back together and give me bad news.....i hate the anticipation...

well i didnt get the truck back today...he wants to look at it some more.

but its not looking good...transfer case might be shot...he said my gears are meshing together in the transfer case....and on top of that i have a crack going across my windshield in the maxima, so i need a windshield for that, the exhaust broke and is held up by a coat hanger, and the brakes are grinding......now since i have to use my maxima for work, Ol' Blue might be down for the winter .....i need the max for work, so i have to fix that first......

what makes me wonder though, is that my 4x4 works perfect...its in 2wd when i have the grinds....

but i could get lucky, its not definate that my transfer case i bad....which i hope its not, but if it is....well, ill probably drop mine, and gut it out, so i can have experiance with a transfer case overhaul.......sounds like fun to me

now jsut for my info....do i need any special tools to take out the transfer case? any certain ways it has to go in? do i need to line up any punchmarks while installing?

Transfer case if pretty straightforward. Just put it back in, the same way it comes out. (and you may not even get a choice of putting it in 'wrong'....) No special tools required that I am aware of...... a trans jack would sure be nice though.

Grab the manual from the FAQ section, and read thru the procedures contained there. It won't be exact, but, it will be pretty close.

The FAQ section can be quite handy at times. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...placement.html

well i got Ol' Blue back today..................

Transfer case is shot....luckily my buddy who took the truck, just stripped a Ram 2500. He has the transfer case (same as mine) and hes selling it to me for $240, it has 76K and hes documentation for it.

luckily he didnt charge me for the 4 days he's had my Truck....good friend right there...

im getting the T-case within the next two weeks, and im going to start removing mine this week.

Then ill be taking my old T-Case, and rebuilding it, to either swap with the one im buying, have for spare, or to sell.....

Hate to burst your bubble, but the TC from a 2500 is most likely a 241hd. Your's is a 231. Might be some front and rear driveshaft issue's.
