Vehicle Speed Sensor/ RWAL sensor. That's not the problem. Could be the Output Speed Sensor on the trans.

I replaced the TSP and it didn't fix it. I checked the fluid in neutral and it was at the minimum line. I filled it up to max and drove it home from the auto part's store. It kept doing it so when I got home I check it and the fluid is at max. I put ATF 4 in it. Wonder what the problem is?

Okay guys. I drove home tonight and it was still doing it. I punched it to 70mph and kept it there and it didn't act up at all. My dad is a ASE mechanic, and he thinks it's a sensor on the transmission that has gone bad. The only code I'm getting is a bad O2 code. What sensor would cause it to want to shift out of 4th to 3rd super fast and then back into 4th? At 70mph and higher it won't do this. Any ideas?

maybe the overdrive selenoid is bad....which would require removal of the overdrive assembly, since its located inside the trans.

Why dont you take it to a tranny shop and have them put a scanner on the transmission. Mine was shifting weird and holding onto gears, I got it scanned and it was gov pressure solenoid and transducer...very easy to replace and costs under $150 for both.

I have an OBD II scan tool. It would tell me the code for any transmission error. Is it hard to install the thing your talking about?

There is a control solenoid and a kick down solenoid listed on Rock Auto.

You have OBD1 so that scanner won't work.

94-95 is obd1.
96+ is obd2.

read through montec's transmission thread at the top. your problem sounds like its constantly hunting the right gear, which might be the gov pressure sensor and solenoid, and other than a fluid/filter change, is one of the few service events that most people, including me, can do to a trans. a fluid change might help, or might be a waste of $50-60.
