Well, the truck has at least a 318....thats a start..
I think it could prolly tow it fine, but it depends on what has been done to the truck.
Larger tires are going too affect tow ability. Blown plenum and clogged cat will too.

You'll need to figure out what all (if anything) is wrong with the truck before you tow....otherwise...you'll get pissed. lol

Lol yea i know that. I used to be a mechanic and went to school for it but wasnt a fan of wrkn on cars the rest of my life. Plus i didnt want to lose interest in my hobby. Im going there with one of my mech buddies and we are going to tare it appart. i feel bad for the guy lol. Hes asking 1500 and it has 120k on it. but it needs a clutch and the 4x4 actuator and an alignment. I didnt think it was to bad.

It's for the 2001 model year but it will give you an idea what you can tow.

They are only rated less to compensate for morons that don't know how to drive a manual. Manuals are capable of towing just as much and usually more than an auto.

Before I got my truck, my dad and I would tow our 16' boat with my mom's Caravan. It pulled it no problem for years. We also used it to tow my cousin's 18' boat twice a year and once again, no problem. So considering that, you will have no problems towing a boat that size. You won't even feel it behind you.

I would think you would have to be able to tow 7500+. A friend had a 95-96 5.2 auto and he pulled a 24' fifth wheel no problem. I would bet that 16-18' boat is under 5000, should pull great.
