Default Rear diff rebuild

I have a 2000 Ram 1500 4x4 and the rear diff needs to be overhauled. I'm not sure what exactly needs to be done and I guess I first need to find out what the gear ratio is. All I know is that it is a posi rear. I hope someone can give me some answers.

Welcome to DF.

Is your Ram an Off Road edition? If so, you have 4.10 gears. If not, you should contact Dodge and get a build sheet for your truck. That will tell you everything it came with from the factory, including the gear ratio. In the subject and comments section of that form, make sure you simply state that you would like a build sheet.

I will move this to 2nd gen (1994-2001 Dodge Rams) to get you any additional help you might need.

I'm not sure if it's an off road addition. How can I tell?
As for that link you provided, it is for US residents only. I'm in Canada. I suppose I could contact a dealership here to find that information.
Thanks for the help.

You can open the hood and look up there should be a label with your some of your truck specs on it. It should be something like 3:55, 3:92, 4:10. As for your build sheet go to your closest dealership parts dept with your ins papers and he or she will print it out for free.

If it hasn't been removed, there'll be a metal tag on one of the bolts of the diff cover that'll tell you what you've got. Unless, of course, someone swapped gears and for some reason put the original tag back, which is one dumb thing that I've never seen done.

I took a pic to post but it seems my software is acting up so that's a no go. There are 2 tags on the diff. One looks like 3 2 and the other looks like 0.159 or 3.159.

Thanks, found it in there. Who'd a thunk? lol
The gears are 3:55. Now I just need step by step instructions and I'm all set. Can anyone provide a site where they can be found?

WOW! Looks like a lot of work and with the bad weather coming on, I would hate to tackle something like that outside. I would also need some special tools that I don't have. If I never needed my truck yesterday, I could put this off for a while. I may have to farm the work out.
Thanks for the link.
