rpms jumping?
Hi all, my 2001 318 is doing something i need to firgure out. I thought it was the tranny because it was doing it before it was rebuilt but it's still doing it even after. Going down the road, it does it at 55 or 65 doesn't matter, but the rpms will jump up about 200 rpm's real quick then drop back down. It only seems to do this when the cruise is on, i can't ever get it to do it when im not using the cruise. just going down the road and the rpm's jump up 200 and right back down once in awhile with the cruise on, what could this be? Thanks
TPS, or TCC solenoid/wiring. If the TPS is not giving the PCM the right info, you won't get consistent behavior. (TCC staying locked.)
If the TCC solenoid is weak, or, the wiring is worn and grounding out inside the trans, this is the behavior you can expect. Although, being on cruise control, or not, shouldn't matter..... Not sure what that is about.

I agree with the above post. Sounds like the converter isn't staying in lock-up. First step is to find out if there are any hard faults, either engine or transmission. And make sure your trans fluid is at the correct level. Once you've done those things, get back to us. If there are any codes, list them.
There's a good chance that it isn't the wiring harness in the transmission having a worn spot in it since it just got rebuilt.
The Haynes manual has the procedure on how to test your TPS with a multimeter.
If it isn't the TPS then it could be worn/melted or just cheap spark plug wires giving you cross fire (that was the cause for me).
Do the spark plug wire re-route and inspect the wires while you're doing it for cracks or melted spots.

Try the key trick and see what if any codes come up https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...code-list.html
When it got the transmission rebuilt it also got a new torque converter, so that shouldnt be it considering it was doing before and after the rebuilt. I'll take a look at the spark plug wires. No codes came up and it's wierd that i can't get it to do it unless the cruise is on. And transmission level is correct and brand new. Don't think it's the transmission itself.
