Default New gear box, still has play at top of box

I put a remaned steering gear box in my truck and I still have the issue of there being play where the steering shaft meets the gear box. You have to move the steering wheel about a quarter turn before the pitman arm moves.

The solution on other post with this problem is adjusting the gear box. My question is should I have to adjust the gear box since I just bought it and should already be adjusted? or is it another issue?

The steering shaft is solid all the way up.

Thank you.

Take a look at this http://dodgeram.org/tech/mods/steeri...ear/Adjust.htm . The Worm Thrust Bearing Preload Adjustment is what is needed. I'd take it back. What brand btw?

Fenco, It was cheaper than the A-1 Cardone and it worked. I needed it that dat after all the BS I went through. Otherwise, I probably would have waited and got an AC Delco.

I got it from Autozone. Yeah, I will take it out and get another one, hopefully I don't break another pitman arm puller. It took 5 tons of pressure to get the pittman arm off the first time.

Next time wrap the side of the pitman arm a few time's while you tighten the puller.
