+1... never could understand why anyone would think removing the bed is easier. One thing to add though. When you put the pump back in, make sure it goes back in the same direction. There should be an arrown on the tank and one on the fuel pump. Or just use a yellow tire marker.

Yeah, I see all these people recommending to take the bed off all the time when, I can get the tank out in 15 min flat. It's so easy to do vs. dealing with bed removal.

Oh, and, good thing you mentioned that about the arrow- that's a KEY for pump alignment. I forgot to write that into the process.

I tend to leak gas a lot too, clears the room pretty quick.

i found the problem, there is a small rubber cap on top of the fuel pump assembly that is held on by a hose clamp, the top of it is split in 2...im off to the parts stores to see if i can find another

dakotas,
Did you find a replacement cap? I have the same problem. It appears to be a pressure release or something. I'm wondering if that breaking is an indicator of another problem where too much pressure is building up or something.

ummm, i think i just found a vaccum cap to fit and a hose clamp...... lloked to me to just be old and rotted
