Default Under hood insulation/liner

Does anyone have any opinions on removing it from a dark colored truck? My 98 (silver) never had a problem with out it, but I know the paint on darker colored models (earlier than my 2000) had hood and roof issues with the paint. I just don't know if the extra heat from below (with out it) will cause any advanced acceleration of the problem, or if better primer and paint was used in later models.

Thanks in advance Z

Had the dealer take mine off, since it was torn and hanging down on to the engine.

Its messy to take off, but I don't think you'll have any problems with it...just don't kill me if you do.

I won't kill you, maybe your truck though! It's not hanging down bad yet, and I know the potential fire problem. I'm just curious about the paint.

Come to think of it....ST Rams don't even have hood liners. Just SLT's. Therefore, I don't think it would effect the paint. Then again....the truck in question IS 10 years old.

I think I'm just being too paranoid seeing the paint on older trucks. Probably has nothing to do with the liner, just a crappy process or the paint itself on early models.

My '01 was an ST, and it had a hood liner. I took mine off, and didn't see any problems with the paint. Of course, I had it off for about 2 years before I sold the truck.

i took mine off Z. no problems as of yet and its been off for close to 3 months. im glad i took it off though. found out my hood is not original, my hood was white at one time, which leads me to believe its been in a collision. i guess its time to do a carfax now that i had the truck for over a year now.

I'd keep it, I had mine out for two days for cleaning reasons and while the sound was amusing for the first 10 min after that it was just a loud droning sound. If you don't like to talk to the person beside you leave it out. It mite not be to bad on a stock motor. I think it has really helped the paint on my hood over the years.
