98 ram startin trouble
I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 with the 360 magnum. I just installed new comp camshaft and am haveing trouble getting it started back. I checked the cam timing by putting the number one cylinder on tdc comp stroke and the rotor button lines up pretty close to the number one wire. I have fuel an i have spark. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

A few months back when I swapped my Hughes plate and 1.7s from my 98 to my 2000 . The screws for the cap on the 2000 both broke. So I swapped distributors too. I had the same problem as you with the 98. I needed the wrecked 98 to run so I could move it around my yard. Took both trucks apart, and put them both back together at the same time. The 2000 started right up. But the 98 would not. I could swear everything was right. Removed the hold down bolt for the distributor, lifted it up and rotated the rotor 180. Installed it and turned the key, low and behold it started right up. Btw, even if it starts after doing this, you will need to have the fuel sync reset as mentioned above. I have a capable scanner and can do this myself.

The crank turns 2:1 vs. the camshaft. You can be at TDC of the exhaust stroke with the rotor lined up, and that is 180* out.
Also, you have the firing order on the cap correct and clockwise, right? I ask this because alot of guys have wired SB like BB, which turn CC. Or vice-versa. I did when I was 16 with my first BB truck after a cam install. Although I realize most on this section of the board probably have limited or no time messing with B and RB engines. Or even LA, for that matter.
