5.9 Exhaust size/sound?
I like my exhaust, I have 2.5 inch diameter all around into and out of an xcelerator muffler. I forget what brand the CAT is though, i know it is dual-in single-out but i am not sure the diameter of the two pipes going into it. Very throaty and loud, but not super overpowering in my opinion.
the 2 and 1/2 inch pipes are good. The problem is the thrush muffler...they are garbage and you will be much better off with the Flow Super 44. just my 2 cents...I also noticed your Y-pipe is really banged up...
Made a new a-pipe for it, this one loops around the oil pan so it will not be hit, and made room for a transmission/oil pan skid I have planned to fab up.
Made sure it cleared the starter, steering linkage, and came up high enough to clear the upper 3-link on full bump. I should have done headers, but this was only $30 worth of pipe. Sounds only marginally better. Dunno.

HU?! I'd have to respectfully disagree. When I had the stock exhaust pipe on my ram, I switched out the muffler for a $25 Dynomax super turbo muffler and I absolutely loved and missed it. I found a dual exhaust setup with a flow master 40 at the bone yard for $30 so I bought it then installed it. The Flow master was great for the first month, then I got sick of it. The damn thing gives me a head ache. Not only that, but people look at me like I'm some 22 year old ***** making a lot of noise.
Thanks, I definitely will. Just don't have the money for good headers, a new 3" cat and the Hushpower muffler I want right now. I'll update the post when I get those in after Christmas.
I had a hushpower on my car when i was in highschool and i absolutly hated it. now on my dodge i have dual thrush glasspacks with 2.5 in pipe all the way around. stock cat but thats getting junked soon. gonna put an x pipe in and make it true dual. sounds good now will sound outrageous later.
I have the 5.2L with similar setup as above, but 2" front pipes and 2.5" from there on back, with a 40 Flowmaster and then the stock 2.5" tailpipe with the last elbow and end of the tailpipe expanded to 3" and then a stainless tip that finishes at 4".
It sounds awesome! An aggressive, very deep, throaty sound when driving around town and absolutely quiet (barely audible in the cab with the radio off) at highway speeds!
I'm 52 yrs old and when my 19 yr old son heard it he said "that's exactly the sound that I want"! His friends all like it too. I'm a Hot Rodder from way back and love a performance sounding vehicle!
As soon as it fires up, there is no doubt that my truck has a performance exhaust on it!
That's my plan when I get headers. That A-pipe you see is off a 1998 V8 Dakota, they have 1.75 pipe stock. It was an easy bolt-up piece when I did the engine swap in the Jeep. Live and learn I guess!
