Default 5.9 Exhaust size/sound?

I have a 5.9 swapped into my Jeep and ever since I got it I've hated the exhaust sound. It sounds great at idle, part and half throttle, but when I get on it hard it sounds "whispery", sort of a whoosh sound, like it's restricted.

Exhaust consists of:

Ram stock manifolds
Modified Dakota a-pipe (1.75in)
2.5in Magnaflow performance cat
2.5in Thrush welded muffler, dumped right after muffler
2.5 pipe

Started with a cheap Turbo II muffler, and switched to the Thrush trying to better the sound.

Now the a-pipe was modified by a douche at a muffler shop, who didn;t use mandrel bent piping, smashing it flat and even welded on a bend. You can see it here on the driver side, over the d-shaft. *Nevermind the smashed parts, that was from wheeling, and didn;t change the sound*

Did I make a mistake using 2.5 inch pipe instead of 3? Do the stock manifolds cause this? Or is it the ****ty a-pipe mod?

Thanks in advance.

What leaks? Exhaust? None here. It's all fresh, only 10k from rebuild/install.

I bought the exact same muffler and dumped it right out of the muffler. I took it back off the same day. I could not stand it. Im not saying it was exactlly the same noise you have but probally close. I run it for a few minutes with no muffler and sounded great just really loud. Moral of the story dont buy a cheap muffler it will just cost you more in the long run. Get a Flowmaster.

HU?! I'd have to respectfully disagree. When I had the stock exhaust pipe on my ram, I switched out the muffler for a $25 Dynomax super turbo muffler and I absolutely loved and missed it. I found a dual exhaust setup with a flow master 40 at the bone yard for $30 so I bought it then installed it. The Flow master was great for the first month, then I got sick of it. The damn thing gives me a head ache. Not only that, but people look at me like I'm some 22 year old ***** making a lot of noise.

I think it's the restrictive a-pipe. I'm going to go with a set of block huggers, make a 2.5in a-pipe, and Y into a single 3inch. That should open it up enough, I would think.
