I've been on this forum enough to know that most folks think the sct is the most bang for your buck performance wise. I have a few questions, thinking about buying one for myself for christmas..if I have any money left. I'm actually more interested in what it might do for the transmission shift points than anything else. Does it change them much? Especially, does it kick out of overdrive sooner? Also, can you run 87 octane without pinging (plenum is done, plug wires routed). Truck rarely pings now, I won't say "never". It might ping once if I mash the gas hard and drop out of od. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Lastly, is it worth the money if you run the 87 tune? Not really wanting to pay more for gas considering this is my dd. Would like input from anyone that has the sct.By the way, truck is 1998, 360, auto, pretty much stock. Thanks.

 

i pay extra 5-10 bucks a tank of 93 just because there that much of a diffrence in power and it just makes it more fun to drive as a DD.
the trans shift better doesnt drop down in the rpms when it shifts stays up in rpms and goes its alot of fun

 

Ok Ill put up what I have noticed, OD does not kick in as early, stock is around 45mph and with SCT around 55, truck holds gear longer under throttle, and downshifts much quicker.

I run the 91 tune with 87 gas, no ping, no problems, and also got away with running the 93 tune with 89 gas.

If you do decide to get SCT go through hemifever, its the cheapest and his service is wonderful, and had my tuner 3 days after ordering

I've been thinking the same thing for my truck. The only thing im worried about is what will the difference be with me running 33" tires on my ram with 3.55 gears? Off road edition were the only one that came with 4.10's right?

 

I wonder how your able to run the 91 tune with 87 gas? My truck is in perfect condition, new cap/rotor/wires/plugs/plenum, and I can barely run the 93 tune with 93 gas. I have to use 93 gas with the 91 tune, and I can use 87 gas for the 87 tune. Are you using any form of octane booster or fuel catalyst? Maybe hemifever advanced the timing a little more on my tunes.

Sounds like what I need. I'm not looking for a hot rod, I'm just sick of how the trans shifts into od so early and wants to stay there. OD at 40 mph....why, dodge, why? I can live with the rest of the shift points, just the way it shifts in and out of OD has always made me want a manual. Sounds like the sct will fix it. Thanks for the info. Also, I'm assuming installing and changing tunes is pretty quick and easy? Have never messed with a programmer. Previous vehicle was a 1979 model...yeah, I don't trade vehicles real often!

 

Changing tunes is just a simple matter of plugging it in, pressing a few buttons, waiting a few minutes, and you are done.
