Hello, I have an annoying issue with my truck. The ABS activates when coming to a stop. I just replaced my front hubs and new sensors were installed. The rear axle sensor has been replaced. I have no speedometer issues my cruise works and my abs / brake light warning went out after hub replacement. I have tested all sensors for function and ohms. The only thing that needs to be done are the front rotors and pads (worn and warped). Right now the abs fuse is pulled so I can safely stop. By the way I have owned this truck since brand new, so it's not my imagination. Any help would be appreciated.

 

One of the sensors is lying to the abs controller. Determining which one is probably going to require a scanner that can read the data from the sensors. Do you know which end of the truck is getting the ABS dance?

 

It feels like the front end the abs goes hyper and the truck wont stop. Even the sensor spacers are identical to factory (thin brass and thicker steel). Could it be the spacers? Would the rear end tone ring have that effect. I did not have shavings when I replaced the rear sensor. Could the rear end gear oil be gummed up I use the truck to launch my boat?

 

Your best bet is probably going to be taking it into a shop, that has the ability to see real time wheel speed data, while the problem is occurring. Other alternative would be to replace the front speed sensors.... which is not precisely cheap.

 

Did you have the issue before replacing the hubs? And put ALL the info about your truck in your sig PLEASE.

 

What spacers are you talking about?
If your front hubs were lying to the computer I think the ABS light would still be on. But FWIW they are about $80 per side for the sensors.
I think your warped rotors and bad pads are most likely the issue.

 

There are two spacers that go between the sensor and the hub one is thin brass the other is steel. They are oval shaped just like the sensor mount. On old hubs you can barely notice they are there due to rust.

 

I'd also think the warped rotors could cause problems for the abs (believe you said you had abs in the front). I know out of round drums will cause the rear brakes to lock up sooner, causing rwal abs to activate when you don't want it too (mine did that). On a side note, if you ever wax your truck, do not set your bottle of beer on the hood, as it will slide off when you are not looking. Just had that happen as well.
