I don't remember if it was required, but it was done anyway because the donor truck was available. I can ask him later if you want and tell him the thread pop'd up. He's probably to busy to come in here anyway. He traded it in on a 2011 cummins two weeks ago

I think the only diff in the hardness is the auto has a couple more wires that hook up to the pcm to the trans

i want to do the same swap and money isnt an issue at all but the truck has sentimental value. im 15 and everyone worth asking said it is not worth the work to put a manual in an auto but i dont feel like putting a 46 re in every time the gas pedal looks friendly lol

If money isn't a problem, the swap is actually worth while. The 4500 manual is FAR more reliable than the 46RE..... I think the most difficult part of the swap is finding all the parts......

Other alternative would be to get a Mega Viper from PATC...... That trans would live a long time behind any of the v-8s.... even one that has been beefed.

Default NV4500 Swap Preliminary ?s

Hello,

I just bought a 98 Ram 1500 Single Cab, Long Bed, Auto, 360 4x4. I am wanting to do the NV4500 Swap as well. I however want to make sure of a couple things before getting to deep into this.

Trans Bellhousing needs to come off existing 360 NV4500 combo?

Transfer Case Compatability..will the standard tcase fit, or need modifications?

Floor Pan...is it set up already from factory with markings or would custom cut need made?

Assuming I need a new flywheel...?

Any important things to know or look for before going to pull one?

I would love to help!

Yes, you need to find a NV4500 from a 360. The alternative is to find one from a Cummins. Then you would need to swap the bell housings and the input shaft.

When I did my swap from a NV3500, I bought the NV241HD transfer case to match. IDK what transfer cases mate, though.

I took an automatic cab and converted it to a manual. There are no lines or holes. I used a template from my previous cab to cut holes for the shifters for the trans and the transfer case.
