Default Crank Sensor ?

Hey guys ...i was wondering what brand crank sensor you guys have put in your trucks. I called my stealership and they want $200 for a mopar sensor . I still haven't been able to eliminate by backfiring issue . I sent the truck back to the transmission shop where the issue started and he had it for over a week with no results . I brought it to a trusted mechanic and he seems to think it is a sensor issue ....he recommended replacing the TPS and possibly the Crank sensor . He said he has seen some 2nd gen dodges create a backfire with a bad TPS. I changed the TPS with no change . He also said the transmission guy may have bumped the crank sensor while removing the transmission and this could cause a backfiring condition as well. The truck is working the best it has ever worked and only backfires between shifts at city speeds . On WOT it never backfires and hauls *** , it also idles fine and will only start backfiring after it has warmed up well . Thanks in advance

Ain't the crank sensor. They pretty much either work or they don't.

Is it backfiring, or misfiring (stumbling)?

During upshifts or downshifts?

Give us all the detailed info you can, and we'll try to help. Also, make sure the distributor cap is correctly fastened and not damaged. If the rear of the engine wasn't supported during the trans R&R, the distributor cap will come to rest on the firewall, dislodging or cracking it, and possibly damaging the distributor itself.

It's backfiring in the exhaust upon upshift. Other than the noise it is working great. If I turn OD off it will backfire constant on medium acceleration, on the floor it doesn't backfire . This is driving me crazy. Plugs are new and so are the wires. Gonna put a new cap as soon as I have some time off work.

How many miles on your engine, and have you changed the timing chain and gears?

This not not true at all.
I pinched the wires to the crank sensor on my truck putting the tranny back in.
Replaced it with a Napa crank sensor, that’s when the fun began!!
I would start my truck it would run anywhere from 6 to 8 mins and it would just die.
I would wait about 60 seconds and it would start back up.
I could go where ever i wanted shut it off and start it back up and no issues,
unless i let it completely cool down again.
We checked everything over a period of about 6 months finally decided to replace the crank sensor even tho it was brand new.
I replaced it with OEM and haven’t had any problems since (8 monthes).
NAPA SENSORS ARE GARBAGE PERIOD!!!!!
Use Oem Only they are not much more then Napa sensor and none of the grief.
This is where I got mine http://www.moparonlineparts.com/
Have the last 9 numbers of your vin ready and they will get you exactly what you need.
I was very happy with the service and the price was the best around.
I have used them several times for the 4 dodge trucks I maintain.

Dave

P.S. At no time dureing the six months did i have any codes for the sensor.

I thought about the timing set as well....it would just be really strange that it would start once I picked the truck up at the transmission shop after a rebuild . Stranger things have happened . I am going to put a timing set on when I install my modded plenum next month. I'm going to try a used crank sensor off a parts truck and see if it fixes the problem .
