Funny you should mention installing the remote filter there, because that's how I have my rig set up.

drop the pan, drain the fluid, change the fluid, filter and gasket. If you got a welder or know someone who does then drill a hole in the lowest part of the pan, weld a good solid nut into the inside of the pan, get a corresponding bolt, washer, and a piece of old radiator hose to make a gasket out of. Cut the hose so that you got a little square that you can drill a hole through for the bolt. Insert washer on bolt and bolt with washer through rubber gasket and use that as your plug. What you will have is a brand spanking new drainplug in your tranny pan. It will make the whole tranny service thing a lot more enjoyable the next time around.

+1 on having the system flushed at a quick lube joint. Just drop the pan, change the fluid filter and pan gasket and be on your way.

yes all atf4 is synthetic, and DONT use any fluid aside from atf4....from dropping only pan, look to add 5-6 quarts of fluid (@$5.99 a quart...well for the castrol kind i like to get)

and add a drain plug....i brought my pan to the local machine shop, and they put one in for $10 bucks.....not a bad deal at all.....

The check valve is on the passenger side in the motor, at the front where it enter the radiator about mid way up......dont have a pic but thats the best i can describe it....
