To optimize your radios performance the best mounting would be dead center of the cab roof. Make that a 1/4 wave whip and you'll be the king of the air waves.
Edit: On a related note. Doing it this makes your truck fricken tall. You really have to be a dedicated CB'er to live with it like that on a daily driver for example.

My dad's got his mounted on brackets up at the front corners of the box, just inside the edge. Keep an eye on where you run the cables, his are just coming out from the rear doors and they've got the paint wore right down to the primer in a small spot
^ from a technical standpoint that's true.
from a park inside the garage standpoint - i ain't a dedicated cb'er. i'm not even a cb'er. i only turn it on when i can see the person i want to talk too..

use an 18 ft antenna cable. run it out the firewall through the rubber plug where the clutch rod would go, then circle back under the truck attached to the frame, and up between the cab and bed.

Use this guy. I have had it on for a year with a 4ft firestick antenna. That guy has hit tree limbs at 50 mph without a problem. Just one screw to unscrew then rescrew to mount it.
