Default 5.9L 360 w/ a clogged catcon

Hey, guys. I'm a newbie...sorta. Been a member since September, but searching threads have answered any question I could have thought of, until now.

My '99 Ram has a clogged cat. I want to gut it for now instead of spending a few hundred on a replacement before I do the plenum repair. Can I get the old cat off without cutting? I've seen a few different answers to this, and wanted to settle the score.

Thanks, Ram experts!

You can get a Magnaflow High flow Cat for around 80 bucks.

Remove the pipe from the rear of the cat. (either unbolt it, if you can..... or cut it.) Remove the pre-cat O2 sensor. Beat the crap out of the substrate in the cat, to break it up into small enough chunks to remove. When you have as much as you can cleared out, Start the engine, and rap on it a couple times to blow the rest out. Put the exhaust back together, reinstall the O2 sensor. Might get a CEL for low catalyst efficiency though. There is a DIY in the FAQ section to deal with that.

Thanks for the reply--I saw that on Amazon, but I didn't know if I wanted to spend the money throwing a new cat on before I tackle the plenum. Seems like it'd just be a waste of money. What do you think?

Thanks--I saw the O2 trick in DIY forums. I'll give that a shot.

Just be aware, that damage is being done to the valves for instance and o2 sensor , if you don't fix the plenum.
