nope they're KB hypereutectic. this build is all motor, no boost.

i paid $310 for the pistons, i belive icons (KB forged) are about $480

ill start snapping some pics as soon as i have everything in the garage ready to assemble. the entire bottom end is either at the race shop or en route to the shop via UPS.

you're building a 408?

those are hypereutectic pistons. im using the same type of total seal plasma moly rings on my 390 build. the conventional rings are a better choice than gapless unless the motor is strictly a race engine

Good price but if you have to mill them how much more is that plus dont you have to rebalance it ? Just never herd of running this kind of slug with a dome that needs to milled down at more cost. IDK my old man is the builder helping me with my stock rebuild as money permits. Should happen this summer.

an hour of shop time ($70) is all. the rotating assembly won't need to be re-balanced. heck, most guys dont even bother to balance theirs.

piston modification is pretty standard in building a custom engine... you could have someone cast or forge custom pistons , BUT those are the BIG BUCKS

Dont think milling slugs is standard. Milling the block is standard practice at least from the articles i have breezed over and the book how to build big inch SBM (GREAT READ). Making a open chamber slug fit a closed chamber head isnt standard. There many more options(slug) out there to net better results. WOW not balancing the assembly ?

hmmm, dont know if i could have found a better match in that price range, these are +23.5 dish pistons. but if you can find a set, go for it.

any competent shop will turn the piston crowns down to get a good quench.

the new pistons wont affect the balance of the rotating assembly

Read through the last few threads...

The KB356 pistons should be fine, and it is standard practice to mill the tops of pistons down when building a custom motor, but it will change the balance. If staying external balance, not a big deal, don't worry about it.. But if you are going internal balance, you will need to re-balance...Milling the pistons is typically done on pre assembly.

I'm having a 408 built too...I'm not going to do the work or the assembly, but my needs are bit different, it'll be seeing some high rpms (7K) and a 150 shot so everything is forged/balanced/blueprinted/squared/align bored etc...Pistons are up in the air as to which ones to use, but CR will be around 11:1 with the 2.02 ported and decked Eddys... Rings will be gapped for the spray.

I thought about a main girdle, but Ryan Johnson (link below) says they are a waste of time...They don't do anything. But with my spring pressures...I might go with a stud girdle.

Great book...But you must have missed the part about milling the KB pistons.

BTW, that motor on the cover is for sale on Moparts.com...
