I agree that p2v should not be an issue with aftermarket pistons. When you buy performance pistons, they know you're not just slapping a stock cam back in there.

That being said, had I just slapped those thinner gaskets on my truck and called it a day, it might have been BOOM, not VROOM. Hence, I always check.

Here's a good read on Cometics from one of the best Small block Mopar guys out there...

seems to me like they wont be the best option for a street driven truck. I may just go with the 1008's

What makes you think so? Aside from the cost......

Granted, the Fel-Pro's will prolly be fine. Not like you are running huge compression numbers, with forced induction, and nitrous......

Getting the right surface finish shouldn't be that much of a chore. Do that BEFORE you clay the valves though.

the notion that they may "weep" when the engine is cold has already sent me running.

aside from milling the surfaces, what needs to be done?

i assume the felpros needn't a flawless deck surface?

Fel-Pro's are a bit more forgiving......

I didn't investigate what surface finish they required.... but, one would think it would be relatively easily accomplished in a.... machine shop.....

He also noted that the weeping was generally due to 'improper' surface finish..... Though I do tend to agree with you. If they can make the cylinders seal permanently, whats the difficulty with water jackets? Hell of a lot less pressure there.

i think ill stick to the general sentiment of using what i KNOW to work (just like the gapless rings that are on they're way back to summit ) especially with such a mild CR of just 10:1.

good point, how the hell do you seal 250psi cylinder pressure, but fail to seal a water jacket?

I'd use 1008's, and have in the past, but I'm leaving it to the guys whom are going to be building my new motor....No room for error, I'll be beating on it pretty hard.

These guys....Kammer and Kammer...
