Could definitely be doing it as well as coil. Disi is such a pain to get to. Pull the cap off and take a look. I know, easier said than done. Bad cat can cause lugging/bogging as well as overheating cylinder 8 which could cause pre-ignition. I don't envy you right now. So many things can cause misfires, lugging. I bet it'll be nice when the 408 is done. lol

would replacing the cap and rotor eliminate the distributor from possible causes or do i need to do the whole assembly?

just got the 408 back from the shop today. i just have to put heads on it and button her up

may be bad gas. i usually fill up at BP but was closer to hess at the time of fuel up. i seem to recall filling up at hess the last time this occured. ill fill up with 93 at bp and add some techron

filled up with 93 from BP and added 2 bottles of techron, drove 20 miles, shut the truck off and restarted it 20 min later and the CEL was gone and no more rough running or shaking... go figure.

i wonder if the oil consumption is lowering the octane of the already low quality hess fuel. ive never had a problem with BP's 87 that i know of

Water in the fuel, or debris from a dirty fuel storage tank could cause what you are describing, especially if the tank is low on fuel. I only go to high volume stations and I never full up when I see the tanker truck there.

If you have a chevron around you, just gas up there. The extra 5 or so cents per gallon equals out if you buying a bottle of techron every 3k or so.

Hey matty, this is way ot, but have you beefed up that transmission for your 408?

That thing will eat a stock transmission in no time.

i got down to about 1/4 tank tonight (same fill up as 5/7), and i got a flashing CEL with violent shaking and little to no engine power.

i limped up to BP and filled up with 93 and it now runs fine again, whats going on here? could there be contamination at the bottom of the tank? is it the fuel pump?

sounds like water in the gas, maybe from condensation.

get a bottle of fuel treatment that claims to treat for water. HEET or similar.
