Well my truck has been behaving rather well this week, but did get codes when pulling the trailer on less than half a tank. P0303 misfire cylinder 3. When I fill up to 3/4 or more the problem seems to disappear immediately, although when it is happening it seems intermittant, not constant. Also noticing similar symptoms with or without the trailer when @ part throttle like when maintaining speed at about 40 mph. When "nursing" the gas to keep speed it stumbles a little when I touch the throttle. Went hammer down just a little while ago with about 5/8 in the tank and she felt strong and smooth from 30 to about 60 mph.

57 days/1476 miles ago. Replaced both head gaskets, plenum gasket, valve stem seals, plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, serp belt. Actually noticed the part throttle stumble within the first few miles after reassembly, then the low gas tank misfires a little later on. Perhaps I should start my own thread, didn't intend to hijack this one, but others here were experiencing similar symptoms when low on gas.

May not be such a bad plan. Give all the details in the first post. Whats been replaced, what's new, etc.

Also, if you had your heads checked for cracks and such.....

several rounds of heet and other water removal products failed to clear up the symptoms.

it runs like a champ until the fuel level nears 1/4 tank, although the level at which it starts acting up seems to vary slightly b/w 1/2 and 1/4. as soon as that happens it begins to lightly miss or shake and steadily lose power and shortly following, i have a top speed of 25-30 and it vibrates. it will cut off at idle if no throttle is applied.

CEL for multiple cylinder misfire

cracked pickup tube?

Very good possibility. Have to pull the pump and check.

If you have a hand or two to help lift and move it, yes.

Well, dropping the tank is the easiest, unless you have a lot of room (place to put the bed, or a way to suspend it from the ceiling in a big shop). I usually just run the fuel level down to as far as it will go, and then support it/drop it with two floor jacks. It can get a little tipsy when lowering it, but if you have 2 people its usually fine.

I am putting fuel treatment into my tank today, but am pretty sure that the issue is related to the fuel pump. It would have to be a lot of water/contaminants in the fuel, settled in the bottom, to cause the issues its causing. The way its behaving, I really think its an air-in-the-fuel issue.

Even with a great discount, the fuel pump is $220 at Napa, anyone else found any more ecomonical options?

Keep us posted.
