LA and Magnum engines use different oil pans. The Magnum pan is different to accomodate the one piece oil pan seal.

I would hope that coating the inside wasn't really necessary, if you are getting 'stuff' IN the pan, that rots it from the inside out, I think you have some serious issues..... Most likely is rusting from the outside IN, road salt, and various other nasty stuff that you find on the highways and byways.....

POR15, RhinoLiner, or something to that effect, that will take the heat, I think would be a better plan. Of course, coating the pan is also going to act as an insulator, so, the oil is going to be hotter as well.... Oil cooler time?

I can't wait for something better, so I'm getting the Spectra from advance. Just got done taking the old one off in an hour. I can't believe with all the rust down there, every nut and bolt came right off. And to top it off, the inside of the motor is so clean you could eat off it. Not a spec of anything on the screen and the rear main is not leaking.

Hammerite Paint. I've heard good stuff from many people about its durability.

LOL, I'll take a couple before I clean things up, and I'll get one of the old one. I just cleaned myself up, because I have to use the Z3 that I can barely get in and out of, to go get the pan at 11:30. I knew someone was going to say that!

You ought to try to push a finger through the spot you mentioned earlier for the picture.

Will do, But I put a short screw and gooped up some black RTV in that spot last nite, hoping to get to work today. The 2 qts of oil on the floor this morning put a damper on those plans,LOL. I would have been taking a big risk anyway, so except for the lost pay, I'm glad I didn't risk it.

Well, taking it off was one thing(easy), putting it back on is a whole other story! LOL Friggin motor mount was sort of overlapping slightly on one side. I forced the pan over as much as I could and got it bolted up. If it doesn't leak it will be a miracle. If it does, I'll deal with it this weekend when I swap the tranny.

Here is a pic of the inside of motor before I scraped and cleaned the gasket surface. I'll take pics of the pan itself tomorrow when I'm not so aggravated after putting the new one on! I don't think I will ever have to use conditioner in my hair(whats left of it) for the rest of my life. LOL
