Default 46re transmission trouble

well my nightmares starting to come true. my trans is starting to act up on me. i went to put a sending unit for a trans temp gauge in the pan so i figured i would change the fluid and filter. dropped the pan put the sending unit in the pan installed the new filter and put mopar ATF+4 in it and now its not right at all. going up a hill over at the farm i was in 4hi and it would not even start moving untill the engine hit 3200RPM and within 10 mins. of just pittering around (never got out of 1st gear) the trans temp was reading 160 and it was still going up before i shut it off. it seems like something is not "locking or grabbing" to push the truck forward untill it reaches a high rpm even on level ground in 2hi it seemed like the motor revved up higher then usual before it started moving. what could be my problem i didnt have quite enough fluid to totally fill up the transmission put it is above the "minimum" mark on the dipstick

I'd guess that you didn't quite get it full enough to run. Are you checking the level with the transmission in neutral? (Yeah, I know that one's obvious, but brain farts happen to all of us.)

yea i checked it while it was running in neutral. im hopin its the fluid level cause last time i changed it i overfilled it just slightly and i was too lazy to drop the pan and let the little bit drain out and it seemed to drive and shift better when it was a bit overfilled

after you filled the fluid you did run it through the gears right? 1st for 10 seconds, 2nd for 10 seconds, all the way to park.....you need to get all the fluid in there, and if you didnt do this, i bet you're low on fluid.....

i tried what you said 95ram and the fluid level went from being just above the minimum mark to being way below it so i quess once all the fluid gets pumped through it like it does under normal operation it makes the level alot lower then if you juss turned the engine on and check it in park. ill add more fluid when i stop and get more at the dealer this week and see what happens...guess im stuck drivin the old cheby for now....

I'm glad to know you got it working again. Thanks for the follow-up.
