Electric cutout

Default Electric cutout

Wanna do an electric exhaust cutout, so I have a switch for obnoxious mode, but need some info first. First is placement. Before or after cat? I have a 2001 so I have a small section of 3 inch pipe after and before cat before downsizing to 2.5. I'm gonna do a high flow cat if that makes any difference. Next is brand. I live in MD, which means some snow and salt, but not too much, will this affect the seals on the cutout? Same question with mud. Third is mounting. I understand that its essentially a Y-pipe with an electric flap opening and sealing before a downturn. I was thinking I would mount it horizontal to the ground and just do a small downturn? Input guys?

sounds like fun! since your putting on a hi flow cat i would put it on after the cat. it gives you plenty of room to work and you shouldnt have exhaust coming into the cab with the windows down or getting sucked into the engine compartment and in thru the vents. I would run a y pipe directly behind the cat and us a spring loaded flap so the flap is held down with tension to keep it from coming up at will. sealing it may be a problem since there is alot of heat in that area you may be able to use an exhaut donut seal since its rated for high temps and the weather or other elements you throw at it shouldnt affect it. next is making it open and close, the spring would keep it closed and you could use a manual cable that comes inside the cab that you just push and pull to open and close. hope this gives you some ideas. i would like to see how it turns out, post some pics when your down.

He is talking about buying an electirc cut out. They usually come with a y-pipe and the electric actuator and gate.

I suggest mounting it before the cat as if you are putting in a cutout it might as well be as loud as it can.

I don't think there are gaskets. The blade will seal to the metal casing like a TB blade.

it would be kinda pointless after the cat...most people do it as close to there y-pipe as possible

If you put it before the pre-cat O2 sensor...... gonna render the sensor somewhat useless.

I was thinking about that but wouldn't i lose bottom end torque when it is open?

Yes if you have a stock motor, you should notice lowend loss....but if you put it after the cat you will quiet it back down

i had mine after my longtubes no cat LOUD ! ! i was afaid to get on it after i had it installed. i got used to it and had it open all the time cept late nights or early morning for work.

i have video in my youtube of diffrent setups with it . i went with DMH there really nice no leaks and reliable
