I asked a similar question recently only phrased mine like: which is best for towing? Most were saying go with the 50mm for towing performance and the 52mm for higher RPM gains. Everything I've read so far suggests that this mod is not going to yield much gains for a stockish motor though most say it is nticeable.

I say if you don't have a high flow 3" in and out magnaflow cat on there yet that is whaere you should be looking. I was pretty damn shocked at just how much better my truck ran throughout the RPM range with the stocker replaced with a good breather. RM Indy was saying the cat gave him like 4/10ths off the quarter mile or some ridiculously large amount and it wasone f his first mods too.

IMO throttle body should be one of the last things you do and for bang for buck go fr the high flow cat.

thanks for the info. I have a high flow cat on mine already with no muffler either but its 2.5 not 3". I was getting ready to do the kegger to my truck and figured while i was there why not put a bigger tb since it seems like everyone else has one but if its not going to make a difference i wont waste the money. I would just like to get some more power out of the bottom end of the truck. Maybe i will do a tuner from hemifever first... After christmas though

Throttle body in and of itself really won't give you what you are looking for. It nicely compliments things like better flowing heads, headers, etc, but, at the point you are at, bang for the buck money would be better spent on the tuner.

If your going to keep doing upgrades to your truck, i suggest telling hemifever that and get his package that you can just get you tuner updated for the upgrades that you do. Thats what i did and whenever i get my 408 together all i have to do is tell him what i did and he sends me a new tune. easy and worth it!

a 52mm isn't going to give you one bit more power, torque, or anything else unless you're talking the extreme top end.. with the sole exception that you won't have to move your foot as much to get the same rev... that is all you're doing is feeding it more air with less pedal movement..

Now, a ported/polished TB, theoretically, will make the engine work less to gobble the same amount of air.. theoretically, it increases efficiency which increases power and economy (depending on what kind of mood you're in)..

I just put a fastman 52mm on last week.. the sole reason I did it is it fits into future planning.. when I throw it on a 408 build.. then, my friends, every BTU of air I can get will matter..

I take it you personally haven't tried it. Haha, yes it can be done, but is more of a pain than it is worth imho. I can just imagine what those who do the kegger mod go through. I killed 5 discs on my dremel just on cutting the one horn off alone.

I got fed up and sent mine out to get ported (which i couldn't have done at home) and polished. I couldn't beat the price considering how much more materials I would need to go through, not to mention the time because I am a perfectionist. Trust me, im all about DIY, but this is one instance i'll pass.

Use the fiber reinforced cutting wheels. They work a LOT better. I actually wear them out, rather than blowing them into a million pieces in the first three seconds.

I have a set now :P but at the time I didn't.... But now theres another problem (see vid). I let the mysterious smoke out of the dremel.

Ooops. Letting the magic smoke escape means that it is going to stop working soon. Contact dremel directly, if you tool isn't under warranty any more, they will still rebuild it completely for like 35 bucks. (plus shipping.....)
