That's not very reassuring! I just think it's very interesting that we're both having a similiar, mysterious issue on completely different engines. I know it's not his tranny, he just had it rebuilt very recently. He loaned his truck out to a buddy of his, and dude filled it with gas. It was almost a pure mix of gasoline, I dont think there was much diesel in it. Ever since then it hasnt really quite been right despite replacing nearly the entire fuel system with the exception of the injector pump, I believe.
For us, it usually only happens during the first drive of the day, though not always. Pedal to the floor, but the engine acts like its not recognizes that fact and the rpms go up very slowly....so we're ambling 'bout 25-30mph down the road, once it finally redlines, the engine sorta catches up and its fine.
You're saying your husbands buddy added gasoline to a diesel engine? Hmm... any ideas what that could have broke guys? Might want to ask in the Cummins section.

Same here it took 3 tries at the dealer till they found 2 bad
CATs on mine $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Of course they flashed the computer trying to fix it
