It would be my guess that the rear ujoint went first henceforth the violent shimmying. Then it broke loose off the front yoke in the freefly.

I'm surprised the yoke stayed in the transmission while you were driving without a drive shaft.

The same thing happened to my brother in law but the rear of his drive shaft fell out first and when it hit the ground (at 70mph) it jarred the yoke so hard that it cracked the transfer case in two places.

Check out these two places

If they don't have what you need then you can give these guys a call and see if they can fix you up, http://www.mintonmotorsinc.com/new_arrivals.html

If the junk yards are a no go then you can check these guys out http://www.laynemachine.com
I don't know if they do a good job or not but they're local to you and they make drive shafts.

My u joints broke on my 1996 TWICE. The first time was when I was at a stoplight on an INCLINE. then I gassed it to go straight, it was going uphill and there was a shake then BOOM, CLANG CLANG, clang clang and my driveshaft was rolling down the hill in my rearview mirror.

I tried to drive in 4x4 with my front wheels...that did not work either. Good thing i didn't go more than 50 feet.

Cost about 400 bucks to have the dealership do it with a junkyard part.

try http://car-part.com and get a driveshaft...even if it has a u-joint, replace with a new one.

Under normal circumstances, they are re-usable. Yours, however, have had a bit of a bad experience.... so, replacing them would be cheap insurance.
