Default Going from a 5.9 to a 5.2

I am looking at trading in my 97 regular cab, short bed, two wheel drive Ram with a 5.9 on a 1998 Ram with an extended cab, 4 wheel drive, and a 5.2. The question is will I notice a big difference in power and MPG's, I am getting about 9 MPG's right now? It does have 103000 miles on it but appears to be in really good shape. Is there anything I can look at to make sure there is not a tranny problem durring the test drive? Does the 5.2 also suffer from the Plenum problem?

9mpg means nothing if you don't know driving habits.

I am getting about 6 or less right now but it is about 20 degrees and I am making 4 mile round trips to campus and back with a 360, stock gears and 285/75/R16 mud tires. I was expecting better but on the highway it gets 13.5 which is what I expected. I rarely go above 2k rpms when I drive too.

Gas mileage won't be that much different.... Power? Might notice a bit less, all depends on how well your runs....
