I bought my truck with the remote start already installed from the previous owner. I never thought I would use it but I have been. It's nice to start the truck for 10 minutes in the winter from inside the house so it's nice and warm.

I can't afford to let my V-8 sit and idle....... for me, it's go out in the cold, start it up, make sure oil pressure is good, drive it away.

I don't see how someone could not love the idea of remote start in their vehicles. I have had it before in a different vehicle and it makes things 10 times better for you since you just leave your heater on and in full blast during the winter or your ac on during the summer and you have a nice warm or cool vehicle when you get out to it. I did get it installed by the way, and to the guy that gave me the link to the12volt.com for wiring diagrams, thank you very much. I ended up barely having to use the diagram I got from there since the bank has a GPS/lowjack on my truck, I discovered that most of the wires I needed were already accessible and identifiable. The gps is however causing me some troubles. I got everything hooked up, got the tach learned on the remote start and went to start it and the gps decided it didn't like it so it completely shut everything down, had to disconnect my battery to reset it all and get that damn thing from the bank to stop buzzing. once it stopped buzzing I could hook my battery back up and turn the key, starting my truck no problem. So I am going to relocate the starter wire connection for the remote start and see if that helps any.

remote starters can be a good thing but not always. i was thinking about getting one for my truck but i know it would not work in winter(damn carbureted engine). i was thinking about just adding a switch to hotwire the engine so that i can take my keys with me after i have started my truck.

well i got the damn thing to work I really hate having to deal with those gps trackers the loan companies put in your vehicle, their too much of a hassle, would've had this done yesterday if it weren't for that. one things for sure, when my truck is paid off next year and they want the gps back I will take it out for them so they don't mess anything up!

It is a big job and they try to get you to buy more components. I returned it the next day.

I did not need an additional box for my remote start install I just did a week ago in my 01. Total cost for system installed by me... $35. Best $35 I spent imho and I agree CPTAFW163, they arn't really that cool. It makes my truck warm in the winter

Edit:

Just used mine sitting on the couch right now. Gonna head out for some grub in a few.
