Talking 46re?

Flame away if you can answer my ? So i have a 97 ram 2500 4x4, now with a blown 46re. part #52119527. Now I also have a 99 1500 4x4 with a blown motor but the trans was just rebuilt. part #52119823AA what is the difference? Both have a 46re and both have a 5.9L gas motor. Looking round and round and cant find s*#t. talked to dealers, searched and searched on here and every where else. Please help. will trans work in the 97 from the 99?

No they're not interchangeable. The 97 and 99 have different TTC. Maybe if you swap valve bodies it'll work, but as a simple answer, no it won't work.

Would that be why my trans doesn't lock up in od from swapping a 96 46re into a 98 truck?

I am not a tranny expert, but I do believe it would take more than just the valve body. The computer programming would also be different. Therefore, it would also require changing the computer.

The lock up and OD solenoids and harness need to be swapped, along with the Governor body and the gov switch and solenoid.

Outer plugs are the same, it's the internal wiring configuration that is different.

Well for what its worth, I did basically the opposite with what Taylormoto is wanting to do and the only differene I could find was the speed sensor. I thought that for 96/97 46re's the speed sensor for the speedo is in the tailhousing which 98 and up are in the rear diff. Therefore in my case, I just had an extra plug in the trans but for him his speedo wouldnt work but otherwise all of the plugs are identical. Is it true that the wiring is indeed different because my trans shifts great even into od except there is no lock up? Also, there are no codes thrown.

I think the pinout on some of the connectors are different.. probably why you don't have TCC engage. (and I am really surprised the PCM doesn't whine about it...)
