Default Gear Ratio Identification

Without having the sticker under the hood, is there a way to tell what gear ratio is in a '97 Dodge Ram Sport 4x4 with the 5.2?

If it is still in factory condition I would request a build sheet. Here is a link to a form to fill out for 1:

No, it isn't in factory condition. It has taken a pretty good lick in the front.

It is my nephew's truck. He is trying to make some money off parts before he junks it. If the axles have a 3.92 gear ratio, then I am going to buy the axles off him and put them in my truck to replace my 3.55 gears.

I will check in there.

I know the door sticker is still there. Is there a way to tell by looking at it?

I doubt it's on the door jam sticker, but on the door of the glove box is usually a build list sticker.. it will be there if its not faded too bad.

And if it is faded or not there, is there any other way besides a build sheet?

Might be a tag on the differential itself. Or, pull the cover, and it is usually marked on the ring gear somewhere. Or, if you are REALLY determined..... count the teeth.

assuming open diff, jack up one tire. mark the 6 o'clock position of the tire and drive shaft. spin the tire exactly 2 revolutions and count the drive shaft rev's. should be something like 3.55 or 3.92 or 4.10

almost all these trucks came from the factory with the 3.55
