over heating problems
ok first off i never have an issue with my truck in the summer or winter. it doesnt matter if its 90*+ or 5*-. my truck warms right up, gets to running temp and thats it. when i put my plow on its a completely different story!
ive been plowing with this truck for 7 years now and have always had an issue with it heating up. but today something actually happened and it started pissing coolant(out of the upper hose, or t-stat or housing) havent had a chance to look into it, i just know its in that area.
anyway, no matter what angle the blade is at, up high, down low, all the way right, part way right, all the way left, part way left. does not matter it still heats up like crazy. almost to 260*. but this really only happens when im driving with the blade up. if i have it down and doing pushing, the temp usually goes down to normal 180-210*.
i know my sig is talking about my cummins, but the truck i am refering to in this tread is my 95 1500 with the 5.9 v8.
i know there are plenty of 360's out there pushing snow with no problems. be it in a 1500, 2500 or 3500. so what is going on with my truck???
btw, probably should mention, new t-stat last year, new radiator a couple of years ago, new clutch and fan with the new radiator. i dont recall doing a water pump ever though...could this be it? 134,700K
i just dont get it, works fine with no blade, but with it sucks! this is my secondary truck, but its the one that makes me money so i need it around.
thanks for any help!

drove the truck home after i found the leak. i have never had a leak before but the truck has always done this with the plow on.
yeah i was going to look into that, but like i said, i just put a new clutch fan on not too long ago. i know that doesnt mean it isnt bad, but one would like to think it was fine.
most if not all plows block the air flow to a radiator. my point is, i want to know why my truck over heats when other similar trucks dont.
maybe my clutch fan is junk...i dunno

I was going to say this same thing, that sounds like it to me. I had a WRX that the hood scoop got blocked and started having all sorts of problems. So I would highly suggest trying to find something to re-direct the air flow.
you should fix the leak and top up the rad fluid before you do any damage to your engine. the less rad fluid you have in your system the quicker your engine heats up. i had a friend that was down about 1 liter of rad fluid and any time he sat and idled you could watch the temp gauge go up. he topped it up and the problem went away.
