Your gears are probably fine actually. You probably have something between a 3.21 and a 3.9. Seems like that range would be good for a driver. Much lower or higher than that range with stock tires, and you'll be either gutless, or screaming.

Can anybody report on the difference between cap, open bed, and tonneau cover?

Studies have been done that show no appreciable difference between the various configurations. Of course, there are other studies that DO show a difference.... albeit, minimal. Whom do you choose to believe?

Not sure about the tonneau cover, but I'd bet the cap helps. I've also heard that the older ford lightening can't hit top speed unless the tailgate is down. Yeah I know that at highway speeds the tailgate is supposed to create a bubble that the air goes over. But I'm sure things change with how well that bubble works at 65 vs 105.

At the risk of sounding like a complete moron, I shall admit . . . I'm not sure if its just me, but my truck seems to be happier at 65 if I have my atv in the back. The quad is about 400lbs or so, so the weight difference isn't huge. The atv is slightly lower than the cab, and I'd imagine the air mainly flows over it.

I am sure it probably rides better with some weight in the back. I know my 2500 certainly does......

They are wide angle 5 bulb LEDs, there is a DIY mod for the Dash and nearly every other light. It is by the ENDISNEAR. Our speedometers have a thin blue layer that is already on there. The stock yellow lights passing through the blue layer makes the stock green look. If you want the blue look just use regular blue leds but if you want another color you will have to scrape the layer off.

Maybe. It rode better when I had my dump insert too, but it felt like a dog. Ride quality isn't what I mean though. I mean it feels like I'm in the throttle less, and the speedometer likes to stay a bit farther on the right side.

I know my longbed runs better with a soft tonneau than without. A cap might just be additional weight and unless you must have one for a job, its pretty darn grandpa looking.

Now a Ford Lightning with a sleeper cap would be a sight....

I want a bed cover, but one that is flush with the truck bed. Kinda like this one but I want a solid smooth white or black fiberglass not diamond plate or whatever that is.

I have a cap on my truck. I don't think it makes much of a difference because the grille and whole front end of our trucks are so flat. THe front of our trucks are not wind resistant.

The most aerodynamic car of our time has to be the IROC camaros of 1982-1992. In fact, during that time, they were. Hence why they were so popular in circle track (and still today).
