Default Goodyear Duratrac's on ice

If you don't remember my thread about it, I recently had to replace my Toyo M/T's. I went with Goodyear Duratracs for several reasons. Well, I finally got to try them out on ice today. Bad ice too. I have been trying to find a reason to dislike these tires because I am not a fan of Goodyears overall, but honestly their performance on ice (for a hybrid all terrain/mud tire) was very good. The ice conditions last night and again this morning were about as bad as i've seen it, and I didn't even need 4x4 even once, even on the steep hills and other spots that are tricky to get going on when icy. My next test (if I have time when I get off work), is to go hit some deep snow and see how they do there. So far, they have been great in everything I have tried them in. Deep snow and mud is all that remains for testing.

My only complaint so far is that they didn't balance well. Otherwise, i'm calling them good on dry pavement, wet pavement, dirt/gravel, and ice.

Thanks for the update. I have yet to hear something bad about those tires. I will be wallowing into the tire market soon, and although I haven't chose any certain tire yet, these are on my list.

The Jeep crowd raves the tire. I easily see 80% positive vs. negative reports on the Jeep forums.
Only bad thing I've heard are that they can't handle weight with major sidewall issues even with the "E" rated model. The diesel crowd is pretty down on this tire because of this.

The positive Jeep reviews was one of the reasons I decided to try them, but the negative diesel reviews was a concern I had. Even though i'm not running a diesel, a full size gas Ram still outweighs a Jeep. But I have not experienced any of the sidewall issues that the diesel guys reported. I do worry about sidewall puctures though. That's one oth the things I used to like best about the BFG A/T's - tough sidewalls. These do not have that though. I guess that's what road hazard warranties are for.

I've had two people this past week tell me "woah, those tires are wearing fast". There is no doubt I have lost tread over the 1.5 years I've had them, however these are looking more like 3ish year tires unfortunately. In your thread silver I mentioned before you bought yours that mine seemed to like to cup and run lower pressure to compensate. Are yours wearing flat? Also have a bit of sidewall flex with them too.

I got a set of 4 of them for free because of a promotion we ran in house. I ran them on my old Toyota Taco desert beater/light gnarfroading truck.I scrubbed one against the side of a rock and it tore up the sideway really bad. I had a picture somewhere, I'll try to find it. One issue I noted with them is that they don't like to stay on the bead also. I tried the remaining 3 on 2 different types of wheels, (proper rated diameter of course) and I had 2 jump off the bead on landing. That ****s unsat. Even though they were free, I've gotten better performance out of cheap AT's like Uniroyals.

Dislike

I'll tell ya what. Those uniroyals (I had the liberators) wore like IRON! Had them on there for years. They ended up starting to dryrot before I could finish the tread the rest of the way off. Still have them in the garage on my stock steel's just incase the day comes to move on to a new truck.

Ya, so far the wear has been fine for me - flat and even.

I like the way these tires look and am thinking about putting them on my Ram...but I have a question as to how long they will last. Most of the reviews I've read say they are awesome performing tires for what they are (hybrid). But most of the reviews seem to come from happy customers who have only had them for a short amount of time.

The only negatives seem to be a thinner sidewall...but I hit paved and dirt roads and fields mostly, not rocky trails so I am not as concerned with that. Also, I am running stock weight 90% of the time and not carrying heavy loads that often.

So has anyone had these tires on for more than 30k or 50k miles...or long enough to estimate about how many miles a Ram 1500 can get out of them.
