Default ok my ram is burning oil

my 98 ram 5.2 burning oil i already changed the plenum gasket, and it only seems to be building up when idling. then on take off a nice size puff come out. my oil gauge drops at idle, and i was wondering, if my pump was going out could it be starving my pistons of oil making it burn?

Replace the PCV valve with one from the dealer. Aftermarket units don't always have the correct flow rate.

May have valve seals going as well. If the truck is high mileage.... really wouldn't be that much of a surprise.

I have 167K on my truck, engine is pretty much original, aside from a plate, and some gaskets...... I don't get any smoke at startup 99% of the time. I DID have some serious oil burning issues with an aftermarket PCV though....

update! changed over to oem pcv valve, still getting smoke, put new oil pressure sensor in it. it holds at around 30 psi at idle. i'm thinking leaking valve stem seal, any way of telling wich valve seal could be leaking? or should i just change them all?

Change 'em all. They all live in the exact same environment, so, if one is going, you can bet the rest aren't far behind.
