Remove the pre-cat O2, and see if it runs any better. (physically remove it from the exhaust pipe.)

Ive had a Cat go on me and car ran like crap instantly with no prior symptoms.

You could just punch it out for now....take off muffler, and put a piece of threaded rod or something in there, and break it all up.....start truck rev it and blow out the pieces, and repeat until its hollow.....you'll get a CEL, and make sure the o2 sensor is out.

I actually did this already. I did one quick rev and at first I thought it helped but then I pulled out onto my street and it felt the same again. Should I be real gentle with the throttle and slowly rev it above 1500??

I might end up doing this as a quick fix. Looks like I'll need cats for the long-tern though since Illinois tests everything newer than a 1995. What do you mean by the o2? Does it need to be removed and the hole plugged?

Hey guys. After some research I saw that there was a recall at some point on the cat on these? Anyone know anything about this?

There was a recall, but the time for the federal mandate for the dealership to comply with warranty work on that has passed. It was not all vehicles either.

Still, you can call and try. Here's more info:

Thanks for the help with this, fellas. I smashed out the cat on Sunday after the huge Bears win, and it's running well again. Much louder though, so I will probably put the muffler back on. No CEL yet!!

However, when driving home from work yesterday I was slowing down at a stop sign- was pushing pretty hard on the brakes and right before I fully stop the pedal just goes to the floor and the brake warning light went on! What the heck!!! I finally get the Ram to go, and now it won't stop!!

The brake line running by the gas tank probably blew.

I was afraid of something like that. I still had some braking on the way home. It actually felt just like my mustang when one of the front calipers was bad. But I was thinking it could be a line because I feel like me pushing hard on the brakes is what caused it.
