Default New throttle position sensor - idles fast now

Just got a new mopar throttle position sensor, and installed it today. After I installed it, the truck now wants to idle at about 1500+ rpms. Before it was probably around 700 rpms. I ran out of daylight, so I'm just curious before I go look at it tomorrow if I did anything wrong installing it.

Did you disconnect the battery long enough for the PCM to reset?

One of the reasons for that to occur is, if the TPS was installed incorrectly or, power was not disconnected prior to installation. What ends up happening in teh case of not disconnecting power is, the PCM uses the data based on the old sensor. When using the new sensor, if the voltage is higher on the new one at idle, the PCM reads the input as if the throttle was held open a small amount thus, a higher idle results.

To restore your baseline at the PCM level, reset the PCM by simply disconnecting the NEG BAT terminal and wait one to three minutes for all power in the caps to drain. This will clear the RAM and reset the PCM for use with your new sensor.

This is why many here already asked the question about resetting the PCM. Anytime you change any sensors or are about to disconnect a sensor, always remove power prior to working on the system.

<IF> idle returns to normal, there's no issue

<IF> idle remains high, either the sensor is faulty or, a misalignment of TPS to throttle plate shaft occurred at time of installation.
