Default making a 2500 4x4 lower

Hey guys, I have a 96 2500 4x4 with the factory "lift" with step bars installed. Problem is it sits to high for my wife or daughter to get in easily. So I would like to lower it about 2 inches or so. Without getting into any arguements about why do it or dont can this be done without replacing the hole suspention or screwing everything up? Thanks

I don't know of anyone that makes lowering springs for it..... doesn't mean they aren't out there though.... Couple other alternatives:

Heat the front springs so the front end settles some.
Remove the springs, and whack a couple coils out......

If just lowering the font isn't enough.

Tak apart the rear spring pack, and remove a leaf or two. This would compromise load capacity though.

Isn't there a block in the rear that can be removed to lower it the 3 inches there? I thought I saw that on mine when I was monkeying around one day.

Think the blocks on the 2500's are more like 5 inches.... and the bump stop is integral to it as well. A smaller block?

I can replace the back block. I've already looked into that. I'm more worried about the front and what it would do to the suspension and steering. I don't want to make it easier for my girls to get in just to kill them in a wreck cause I screwed something up. I once saw a device that you used to compress the front spring for lowering don't know if that would be a good idea or not though. Or maybe some spring out of a 1500?? not worried about towing the only reason I got the 2500 in the first place was because of the deal I got on it. 330000 miles and still runs like a top. And I've only had trans problems once and that was my fault for letting my brother in law borrow my truck to tow his. 250 miles towing a Chevy 4x4 with the overdrive turned ON up and down hills. Anyway thanks again for the advice.

Well, a lotta folks take the 2500 springs and put them in their 1500s for a bit of lift, seems reasonable it would work the other way around..... Just, whatever you do, get an alignment when you are done.

Might want to check some local spring shops and see if you can get a set made, should not be too much....or do like heyyou said and trade the springs out for 1500 springs, it will soften the ride some but it seems like you might like that better
