Any luck with it?

I messed around with mine last night and tried the steps. I couldn't get the **** to go past the mark and also didn't hear the door. I wonder how loud it should be. I assume the blend door is mechanical and moves by cable and not vacuum like the vents.

That part of the system is not vacuum. You should here the door shut. If not, I'd say the lever is broke or the cable is stuck.

Umm, btw, what year is your truck? No info in your sig, you should know better by now,

zman,

I just re read your post from the fsm. I think I confused myself by looking at the 01 FSM which is obviously different.

In the 98 is there a motor or does the cable do all the work of opening and closing the blend door? Can you post the section of the FSM that show the removal and installation of the cable? I assume to get at the door if there is a problem with the door that it requires removal of the dash?

98 is still cable operated, no electric motor. And you are right, if the lever is broke, I know of no way to fix it, other than removing the HVAC unit.

I have 2000 2500 & it has a motor that
holds blend Door open or closed. When I hit brake
Hard or bump door closes turning heat on
high. Had to take motor off & spen by hand
& can feel shaft not grabbing door. Anyone
now how to get it apart

Two screws and an electrical connector to take the motor off. (one is cleverly hidden close to the firewall....) If the door has separated from the axle it pivots on, you need to pull the heater box, which means the dash needs to be removed. (good time to change heater, and evaporator cores....)

if the motor simply doesnt grip the shaft, do a search on "heater treater".
