Default Check Engine Light

Hi all new to dodge forum. Can anyone help me? I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9L the check engine light comes on fro time to time after truck is watrm and been driven for quite a distance, the light come on at an idle when stopped. Autozone hooked up a diagnostic computer to the truck and said that the code is for an EGR Valve. My question is could this be correct, and if so where is the EGR Valve? I have looked and can't seem to find it nor can I find a part # for one being sold anywhere. Help Please

Erm, 97 shouldn't HAVE an egr valve???? That would explain why you can't find it......

J415, I will try to find where I wrote the code down. Since I got the code a few months ago, I have changed spark plugs, Front O2 sensor, rear looked new. I have been checking the vacuum lines to find leaks no luck though. This happens about once every 3 months, light comes on always when stopped at an idle at normal operating temperature. Truck does not hesitate, miss, nothing. Many people have said if it does nothing different leave it alone just clear the code. Personally I don't like that; I don't do that with motorcycles and sure will not do it with my truck. Fix it right. From memory I want to say the code was P0405, however I need to verify that. Will look for paper I wrote it down on.

Take a look at the back of your intake manifold, passenger side. If there is an egr valve on your engine, that's where it would be. There should also be a pipe running from the exhaust manifold, to a fitting on the back of the intake in the same spot.

My guess, you are not going to find one. 95 was the last year for EGR according to everything I can find......

My 96 had a block off plate, and no provision for the pipe on the exhaust manifold....... I suspect it was a 'crossover' year... and some did, some didn't.
