Default P1391 code now!

Well once again another problem with my truck. This thing may be a lemon. lol. Anyway I started it up today it was about 30 deg and the truck was surging in idle and could hear a loud hiss like an extreem sucking through the intake. it cleared up after a few minutes and I proceded to the junk yard for parts. Missed and caughed a little till the thermastat opened then cleard up. When I returned home I checked the truck with my scanner. (the CEL light is out) and I had a P1391 code. I just replaced the cap and rotor (BWD brand from advanced auto parts) also pulled the cam sensor and inspected it for an obvious sign of problem since its been missing cold. Looked good so I put it back in. I also have just recently replaced the crank position sensor with one from advanced as well. its brand is BWD. Anyone have any advise. getting frustrated with all the problems this truck is having.

Go to the dealer, get a new CKPS from them. Replace the aftermarket unit you have in there now. These trucks really don't like the aftermarket guys in critical positions. (cam and crank sensors)

Would you reccomend getting both sensors? I put aprox 40miles on the truck with the new BWD sensor without that code coming up.. it didnt seem to throw this code till I played with the cap and rotor. Now that I disturbed the cam sensor this code came up.

If your budget can tolerate it.....

That is mighty coincidental though.... but, if the code is whining about the crank sensor..... Check the wiring for the ckps, maybe you just disturbed it or something.

Codes don't seem to differentiate. Which strikes me is rather silly...... the diagnostic manual probably has some long procedure to determine which one... but, so far as I know, no one here has one.....

Since you started getting the code after playing the the CPS, might try that one first. Get the one from the dealer though. If the code comes back, do the same for the CKPS.

Cool. once again, thanks for all your help. I think with this great community board of dodge enthusiasts I will get my truck straightened out and be able to enjoy my new toy.

Maybe the fuel sync is now off after messing with the cam sensor.
I know if you replace it you have to have the fuel sync reset with the DRB 3 scan tool by the dealer or equivalent.

Ok, thanks. Would just removing the one that was in it (unplugging it) as well to look at it then putting it back in require the fuel sync to be reset, since i unplugged it?

Since nothing moved, I wouldn't think so........ Have you reset the PCM since then? It might just be mad cause the sensor is a degree different than what it was expecting....
