Default Should I have two of these?

While inspecting the front brakes for warage, I came across this spacer ring looking thing on the passenger side. However, the driver's side doesn't have one too. I'm wondering if there should be one for each side, and that maybe that's where our shimmy is coming from. This is on a '98 2500 4x4 (w/ front 60).

I'd ask that question on pavementsucks.com, I think you should only have one because of the axle location but I'm not an expert on it. they're over on PS.com...

Looks like something to keep ur tire farther away, maybe put there because the tire was rubing on something?

The guy at my local Brakes Plus says that there should only be one on the passenger side. Something about brake pull or something like that. I'll ask again.

Maybe that is only with 2500S?????? I have had 3 1500 4x4s, 95 RC, 99 QC, 01 RC and none of them had any spacers. I also dont understand how a spacer on the PS wheel helps with brake pull. Im not saying mine didnt want to go right under heavy breaking, but I dont know how a spacer would stop this.

For clearance issues I can understand, but if something is rubbing on the PS it should also be rubbing on something on the DS. I am not to big on the 'spacer' deal, I have heard they are susceptible to cracking and can break and make your wheel loose and possibly break studs and have the wheel fall off. (Worst Case).

if anything I'd go with steve on this one about it being there from the axel being a bit shorter on that side and to center the wheel on the truck.

I'm unsure if mine has one since I have AAM axels and not DANA's. 18,000 and have yet to take the tires off. . .been too buisy[:@] (still look brand new BTW)

I have a 94 2500 (Dana 60 up front), and I don't have one of those on my passenger side.

I don't think it has anything to do with axle position or brake pull. Also, I'd have to agree with Phatboy here...not a big fan of spacers. They can cause way too many problems. Did the truck have aftermarket rims (or large tires) on it at some point? Maybe the spacer is left over from when they were on there.

Took another closer look at it, and it has text on it too in four spots...

RH SIDE ONLY

THIS SIDE OUT

3.5MM

48736

Thanks Ram 69 for solving the mystery on the TSB. I'll have to look it up and print it out for my records.
